University of Minnesota School of Dentistry

About

The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry was founded in 1888 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and became its own department in 1932. As the only dental school in the state, the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry “advances health through scientific discovery, innovative education, and the highest quality care for all communities.” The program has continually been educating extraordinary and community-minded oral health care professionals for years.

The Challenge

In 2018, the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry got in touch with AllofE Solutions in search of a course and curriculum management system. After being introduced to the eCurriculum, the eMedley application module quickly became the solution.

The Solution: Implementing eCurriculum

The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry customized the eCurriculum application module in eMedley to fit its specific needs.

eCurriculum was implemented to give the program a system for comprehensive mapping for competency-based, gap and overlap analysis, and curriculum improvement. Schools are able to structure, map, report, analyze, and refine their curriculum.

Features included in the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s implementation gave administrators the ability to manage and align curriculum. This means the school was able to customize courses, sessions, objectives, topics, and session types details. They then were able to import preloaded standards and competencies into the curriculum.

In the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s implementation, reporting was also included. These reports helped administrators understand what may be missing from their curriculum, what is overlapping, and how they could improve their curriculum to ensure student success.

These features allowed the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry to work, teach, and test more efficiently as they were able to keep track of what was and wasn’t being taught, and how it tied to their standards.

Customizing the Solution

Later on in their partnership, Bethel University Physician Assistant Program worked closely with AllofE to implement customized features to fit their program’s needs including:

  • Secondary Comments: AllofE customized a way for students and faculty to reply without a limit to secondary comments within the discussion board interface in eduCATE.
  • Attendance: The Attendance interface was customized to give more options for student attendance status.
  • Documentation Upload: AllofE designed a way for the program to upload multiple documents simultaneously into the eduCATE interface, for ease and saving the faculty members time.

Results

As the University of Minnesota continues to educate hardworking, intelligent oral health care professionals, AllofE Solution looks forward to their continued partnership and supporting the program’s educational needs through eMedley.
